NBS Announcement Bar

Privacy Policy

Last updated: August 13, 2026

NBS Announcement Bar ("App", "we", "us", or "our") is a Shopify application designed and developed by Netbyte Studio. The App allows merchants to create, customize, schedule, target, and display announcement banners on their online stores to interact with visitors and buyers.

We are committed to protecting the privacy of our merchants and their storefront visitors. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, how it is shared, and how long we retain it when you install and use the App.

1. Information We Collect

When you install the App, we automatically gain access to certain information from your Shopify account via Shopify's APIs. This includes:

  • Shopify Store Domain & ID: The primary shop domain (e.g., your-store.myshopify.com) used to identify your account and authenticate installations.
  • Merchant Contact Details: Your account email and shop name provided by Shopify, which we use for critical system notifications and support.
  • Installation Logs: Timestamps of when you installed or uninstalled the App to manage licensing and lifecycle.
  • App Subscription & Billing Data: Plan choices, payment status, and charge IDs processed via the Shopify Billing API.

We also store announcement configurations created by you inside the App (such as banner text, colors, layouts, target URLs, and custom scheduling conditions).

2. Storefront Information

To display correct announcement bars to storefront visitors based on targeting rules you define, the App processes limited visitor context when they browse your online store:

  • Visitor Country: The country of the visitor (determined using Shopify storefront localization data) to support geo-targeting.
  • Device Type: Browser user-agent information (mobile, tablet, or desktop) to hide or display specific banners.
  • Current Page URL: The page currently being viewed to trigger page-level targeting rules.
  • UTM Parameters: Campaign parameters (UTM source/medium) if used to display context-specific campaigns.
  • Customer Login Status & Tags: Verification of whether a buyer is logged in and their customer tags, to enable customer-specific banners.
  • Cart Details: The total value and quantity of items in the customer's cart (fetched locally via Shopify's /cart.js) to apply cart-conditional announcements.

Note: All storefront data processing occurs locally in the visitor's browser or is transmitted securely to evaluate targeting rules. We do not collect or save visitor IP addresses or personally identifiable information (PII) of your storefront visitors.

4. How We Use Information

We use the information we collect and process to:

  • Provide, operate, and maintain the core functionalities of the App.
  • Render the correct announcement bars on your storefront based on your settings.
  • Calculate performance statistics (views, clicks, CTR) and present them in your analytics dashboard.
  • Manage plan quotas and process subscription payments via the Shopify Billing API.
  • Provide customer support, troubleshoot technical issues, and improve the user experience.
  • Ensure the security, stability, and integrity of the App infrastructure.

5. Sharing Information

We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal information. We only share information with trusted third-party service providers that are essential to our operations:

  • Hosting & Database Infrastructure: Secure servers and databases used to store configurations and aggregated analytics.
  • Customer Support: Live chat and email support tools (such as Crisp Chat) used to answer support tickets.
  • Shopify: Data exchanges required to authenticate, bill, and fetch configuration metadata.

We may also disclose information if required by law, to enforce our policies, or to protect the safety and rights of ourselves or others.

6. Data Retention

We store your store config and aggregated performance data as long as your app installation remains active.

If you uninstall the App, we automatically retain your store record for a grace period (to allow recovery if reinstalled). However, upon receiving the official SHOP_REDACT webhook notification from Shopify, we permanently delete all database entries associated with your shop domain, including your configurations, usage logs, and analytics.

7. International Transfers

Because we utilize global cloud hosting infrastructure, your data may be stored or transferred outside your home country. We ensure that our service providers apply appropriate privacy protections and technical security controls to safeguard data during international transfers.

8. Your Privacy Rights

Depending on your jurisdiction (including the European Union under GDPR, and California under CCPA/CPRA), you have specific privacy rights regarding your personal information, including the right to:

  • Request access to the personal data we store about you.
  • Request correction of inaccurate or incomplete records.
  • Request deletion of your data from our systems.
  • Object to or restrict the processing of your data.

To submit a request or exercise your privacy rights, please contact us at the email listed below.

9. Data Security

We implement robust technical and organizational security controls to protect your data. All communication between the browser and our servers is encrypted using Secure Sockets Layer/Transport Layer Security (SSL/TLS). In addition, access to database production environments is restricted to authorized operations personnel.
